Business | Jan 31, 2009
[company=3]Eneco[/company] has decided to move its head office to a new, sustainable facility in the Prins Alexander district in Rotterdam in 2010. This building has yet to be constructed. [company=3]Eneco[/company] has decided that the office must meet high sustainability criteria. The facility will be developed by [company=14]OVG Projectontwikkeling[/company] .

- A head office that at completion in 2010 will have an A+ energy label
- A building with exceptional technical and sustainable solutions, both in the construction and the interior.

Eneco opts for a sustainable future
Eneco strives for continuity of energy. According to Eneco, sustainability is the only road towards achieving this goal. For that reason Eneco has a leading position in the development of sustainable energy applications. Increased sustainability also has high priority in our own company and our business operations.

In that respect Eneco has made an explicit decision this summer: the energy company want a CO2 neutral head office with low energy usage and many sustainable solutions.

An exceptional building
[company=3]Eneco[/company] has signed a development agreement with OVG for the realisation of a innovative and sustainable office with a 25.000 m2 gross floor area. [company=3]Eneco[/company] has selected OVG on the basis of its experience with sustainable real estate development, its socially responsible business conduct and customer oriented approach. Already in 2007, OVG was one of the few Dutch companies that were included in the Clinton Global Initiative. In that respect it has committed itself to invest 1 billion US dollars in the development of sustainable buildings. The Eneco building can be added to the list of sustainable projects that OVG has developed since it expressed this commitment. With regard to the rental agreement, [company=3]Eneco[/company] has been advised by Jones Lang LaSalle.

am & Partners Architects has designed the new head office, which consists of three curved segments which enclose a central atrium. The design includes several exceptional technical and sustainable solutions in the areas of solar energy, wind energy and air circulation. The construction is clever, sun oriented and spacious and demonstrates strong attention to the use of materials, colours and plants. The building will feature a large roof garden.

The new head office will house 1400 Eneco employees and will have an A+ energy label. The interior also has to meet high sustainability requirements. This applies to both the choice of materials and the suppliers of these materials.

The building will use a system for the generation of heat and cold (heat pumps that obtain their basis for the generation of heat and cold from a sub ground water bell), supplemented with district heating. Research is being conducted for innovative solutions for solar energy cells to be applied on the roof and possibilities for wind energy applications are also being investigated.
Sustainable operations

By the end of 2010, 1100 permanent workplaces will be occupied. However, by choosing for a sustainable work concept, Eneco can create workplaces for a total of 1400 of its employees. The required office space will be reduced, which will allow Eneco to save costs and prevent the use of energy for unoccupied spaces.

Rietmeijer Huisvesting consultants have been called in for the project management and the supervision of the new work concept.

The central location of the new building in the Prins Alexander district of Rotterdam makes the office easily accessible by public transport.
