Innovation | Jul 24, 2009
On its last day of testing in the port of Rotterdam (Netherlands), Alstom Transport’s hybrid locomotive was driven by Dutch Minister of Transport Camiel Eurlings from the head office of operator Rotterdam Rail Feeding (RRF) to the Euromax container terminal.

The new hybrid locomotive, which operates without catenaries, began testing in the port of Rotterdam area on 6 April. Initial test results show a diesel consumption reduction of up to 55% and a carbon emissions reduction of up to 80% compared to a traditional diesel engine. Noise is reduced by 15 decibels, maintenance cost by 15% and lifecycle cost by at least 30%.

The minister congratulated Alstom Transport on its initiative and stated that this hybrid locomotive fully supported Rotterdam’s ecological commitments.
